Open Up Emotionally: Interview with Juliane Maria Wesch

Everyone should be allowed to find this perfect world within themselves. With my art I give this whole world to all of us. Accept it to experience a content life in awareness, balance, self-realization and fulfillment. You are invited guests.

How did the sale of your first artwork come about?

I sold my first artwork to a colleague in 2000 after my second exhibition. At that time, I was still drawing mainly representational. My colleague bought a pastel drawing with a stylized female nude, held in blue and gray tones, for about 500 DM from me. What touched me very much at that time was that he seemed persistently more satisfied after the acquisition of my drawing than before.

What do the collectors of your works appreciate most about your art?

Collectors appreciate the abstraction and concretization in my works. The reduction to three or four colors. My abstracting approach to familiar themes and memories. My art calls for introspection; everything is allowed to unfold, flow and reveal itself. My works touch on a very deep level, where forms colors form emotions, and words become superfluous. Everything is allowed to be. A collector once very aptly said the following about my art: "Your works are a mirror, and whoever has the strength to look at them and pause with them, it gives the gift of self-knowledge."

What are themes of particular importance that you also deal with again and again in your art?

Moving water is my inspiration. It behaves like my colors, which spontaneously meet each other, meets in flowing progressions, forms a connection and brings the canvas to life. Everything flows, and everything is one.

Can you tell us a little more about your art series?

All four of my art series are particularly important to me. Each series is designed according to a universal law:

"White Silence" according to the law of vibration.

"Bright Light" according to the law of polarity.

"Pouring Life" according to the law of rhythm.

"Emotional Healing" according to the law of cause and effect.

I would like to emphasize here, especially my art series "White Silence" – Everything is in motion – Everything is vibrating.

The frequency of my art series "White Silence" is guided by the free unfolding of nourishing energies and celebrates the enrichment of life. In my paintings, this quality unites in invigorating empowerment. Through the visualization of more harmonious vibration, I want my art to have a healing and liberating effect on the viewer.

"The credo in my art: only when I change the point of view, I can create something new."

At what point in your life did you begin to identify as an artist?

Early collages, pencil, and pastel chalk drawings were created in my youth. I started painting to tame my restless mind. Painting gave me a foundation - it allowed me to ground myself, so to speak. It gave me security and stability. From that point on, I began to identify myself as an artist.

How do your ideas come about, and how do you develop them?

I can develop my ideas best when I connect with nature or spend time in mystical or sacred places. One of the most important aspects is water in any form. I spend a lot of time on the Neckar River, watching the movement of the river, the shapes, and the colors. I am friends with a ferryman whom I visit regularly. We then travel together on his ferry for hours from one bank to the other, so I am constantly surrounded by water. Sometimes even my paintings travel with me.

"I want to create a world where everyone is pulling in the same direction to place more positive feelings and thoughts in the world in a sustainable way."

Which places / spaces have a special meaning in your art?

Places of power, such as the Thingstätte in Heidelberg or the ruins of the Marian cult site Lichtenklinger Hof in the Odenwald, have a special meaning in my art. At sacred places, I let myself be inspired by the power and the light. Here I absorb the energies that I incorporate into my paintings.

Do you surround yourself with other artists? What is your environment like? Are there people here who have an influence on your art?

Definitely, yes, I incredibly enjoy surrounding myself with other artists. The energy of the individual is something indescribably great. I truly celebrate connecting with creative people and engaging with their work. This act stimulates and inspires me. I am sure that this power is also reflected in my works.

What role do innovation and tradition play for you?

I love movement and change. Tradition gives us security and stability; it is the cornerstone of our roots and our culture. That's why we should treat it with appreciation and respect. Innovations open up different and exciting paths for us. With the willingness to change paradigms and perspectives, further development and growth are possible. I also apply this credo in my art: only when I change my perspective can I create something new.

"I want to prepare people to open up more to each other emotionally, to recognize and be more willing to connect in a deeper way."

Is there a work of art in your life that has particularly impressed you?

Yes, "Swans Reflecting Elephants" by Salvador Dalí from 1937. What fascinates me about this masterpiece is the polarity and the change of perspective. As part of my education, I was allowed to visit the Dalí Theatre Museum in Figueres, Spain, in 1989. There I actually experienced that the spirit of Dalí lives in these rooms. Salvador Dalí met me and touched me! This experience was so impactful for me that I decided to pursue a career as an artist.

What is your unique selling point that sets you apart from other artists?

My works are absolutely authentic. They reveal themselves in the respective moment – I paint as if intoxicated, almost in a trance – there is then so much greatness in the room. I draw my inspiration from the boundless powerful source (terms for this are also the universe, God, Spirit, inner guidance, and love – "sea of all possibilities). The moment the viewer gets involved with me and my works, he becomes part of the overpowering creation and recognizes the message in my works: universal connection. The viewer thus becomes part of the greater whole – an energetic process, intimate and healing, vibrating luminously in everything.

Do you have any current or future projects you would like to talk about?

I'd love to. I am currently working in my studio on my most current art series "Emotional Healing" – Everything has its cause – Everything happens lawfully.

It is a free work in abstract art. With a special mixture of acrylic paints poured on the canvas and painted in a kind of "action painting" with large brushes, large and wide forms are created. The representational nature of this series is meant to visually challenge the viewer and encourage them to embark on a journey with themselves. The clear colors and the strong contrasts convey an intense sense of honesty and authenticity. They give courage to recognize oneself, to reflect, and to grow in one's own originality.
