Facing challenges: Julia Magdeburg

Driven by always new challenges, she plays in an impressive way with the possibility to experimentally experience different techniques and to realize herself. The focus is on abstract acrylic painting. Several of her works have already been exhibited in various international galleries.

How did the sale of your first artwork come about?

I was contacted by a collector via Instagram shortly after I shared my first images in the feed.

What do collectors of your work appreciate most about your art?

Buyers are often emotionally moved by the image. Through the interaction of shapes and colors in different layers that create a certain magic, the viewer can lose themselves in the images and build a connection that can change the viewer and encourage them to pause completely and become aware of their strength.

"Art is a kind of return to oneself and at the same time also a creative process. If you want change, you have to face the necessary challenges."

What are themes of particular importance that you also repeatedly address in your art?

Above all, my art is the theme of strength. This is an absolutely fundamental part of my art. Equally important are courage and belief in oneself.

Can you tell us a little more about the "Power" series?

As already mentioned, strength, power and courage are elementary components of my paintings, that's why there is the "Power" series. The paintings are characterized by intense colors that almost explode and are meant to transmit the power to the viewer.

At what point in your life did you begin to identify as an artist?

Art has always been a very important part of my life and has had a great impact on me. However, reason took me away from studying art to medicine. It wasn't until 2021 that I completely found myself as an artist.

How do your ideas come about, and how do you develop them?

It is the experiences and lived emotions that I have also experienced in my life as a surgeon. The everyday challenges in life that everyone knows have a great influence on my images.

Which places / spaces have a special meaning in your art?

I am primarily the experienced emotions that inspire me – regardless of place and space.

Do you surround yourself with other artists? What is your environment like? Are there people here who have an influence on your art?

My father and grandfather were already artists and have influenced me. In school, I had art lessons with a student of Markus Lüpertz. In everyday life, too, I'm in regular exchanges with other artists and like to be inspired.

What role do innovation and tradition play for you?

For me, both topics are important components in life. Tradition helps innovation, tradition is something stable, and innovation is something agile.

Is there a work of art in your life that has particularly impressed you?

I am inspired by many works of art from different eras. If I had to name one painting in particular, it would be "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" by Pablo Picasso.

What is your unique selling point that sets you apart from other artists?

The combination of many layers, colors and materials combined with sculptural forms.

Do you have any current or future projects you would like to talk about?

I am currently planning some exhibitions in hotels and galleries. Today a lot of things are happening online. Currently I'm focusing on live exhibitions because the viewer can build an emotional connection to the image much better that way.
