Time-out button from everyday life: Julijana Planinic

Julijana is an artist from Dachau. She has been inspired in particular by Gustaf Klimt's ornamental paintings of women. Julijana uses acrylic on canvas and selectively she integrates pigments in your works.

How did you come to sell your first work of art?

I sold my first work of art among acquaintances. This was a commissioned work, which I enjoyed very much.

What do collectors of your works appreciate most about your art?

The profundity, the details, the shapes, and the colors. It's like pausing for a moment and looking at the painting from a different perspective. There's always something new to discover.

"The expressive possibilities of abstract art allow me to take the viewer into a world." - Julijana Planinic

What are themes of particular importance that you also repeatedly address in your art?

My overall theme is to arouse openness and curiosity in the viewers. To look at the works from a different perspective, looking at the world and oneself from a different point of view.

Can you tell us a little more about the "Slow Motion" series?

With the Slow Motion series, I want to get the viewer to press their time-out button from everyday life and look at everything more slowly and with their creative side. The viewer gets the opportunity to get off their usual thought paths and be surprised by what happens.

"I inhale inspiration from different directions, new techniques, and conversations."

At what point in your life did you begin to identify as an artist?

I had that moment when I found art after my training as a systemic coach. The colors and large canvases gave me access to my creative potential again. Then I knew this was mine. It brings an inner balance between the ratio of everyday life and creativity.

How do your ideas come about, and how do you develop them?

I get ideas everywhere. This can be, for example, that I walk mindfully and with a different view through nature or streets, talk to people and artists, and read books about colors and shapes. But experimenting with new materials, colors, and shapes always brings me new impulses for my next works of art.

Which places / spaces have a special meaning in your art?

I work independently of places and spaces. Encounters, experiences, and knowledge have meaning for me.

Do you surround yourself with other artists? What is your environment like? Are there people here who have an influence on your art?

I like to talk with friends and other artists about art and techniques and get inspired by them.

What role do innovation and tradition play for you?

For me, tradition is the foundation from which I can learn a lot and which helps me to develop further. At the same time, innovation is the impetus that makes me develop something special. From my point of view, innovation can't do without tradition. Together, it's a dream team that makes me perform at my best.

Is there a work of art in your life that has particularly impressed you?

It has always been Gustav Klimt's Kiss. It has remained my favorite painting since my youth. The size, the gold, and the emotions that radiate from the painting never cease to fascinate me.

What is your unique selling point that sets you apart from other artists?

The layers, the details, and thus the depth that I create in the picture.

Do you have any current or future projects you'd like to talk about?

I have an exhibition in Munich on March 10.
